Self directed Residency, July 2022
Working at Patio Press post grad was a perfect transition for me, really. I wanted to keep up my momentum from school and having a dedicated place to go to and work on my practice allowed me to focus. As I am the sort of person who responds well to having set time-frames, knowing that I had a limited time to work on projects compelled me to maintain my focus and not be side-tracked. Further, having the access to a small press allowed me the luxury of attempting techniques that might have been outside the scope of what is possible in my usual practice.
The Patio Press studio was a happy medium between the vast resources of the ECU print studio and my very limited home studio. As I have no press of my own, having the Patio Press etching press available to use was extremely helpful. In a lot of ways I felt the Patio Press studio was very complimentary to my own practice and a step up from my usually facilities.
The finished work ended up being a two block reduction linocut with an edition of 14. I also pulled 20-30 experimental prints in which I played with ink transparency.
